How does Smart Sorting work?

pon learns from the order in which you check off items how you move through a store — and sorts your list to match from then on. After about 3 to 5 trips per store, the order settles in nicely. New items first land where their kind usually sits in the store, and move to their spot after a few trips.

One thing matters here: pon does not learn a general order, it learns a separate route for every store. Your Walmart can be laid out completely differently from your Kroger — which is exactly why it pays off that your items are assigned to a store. If an item belongs to several stores, it has its own place in each of them.

The handy part: you don't need location access for this — learning the order happens purely from your check-offs, entirely on your device. Over time you simply work down the list from top to bottom in the store instead of searching.
